reducing CO2 emissions

In 2018, Rezinal committed itself as one of the first companies in Belgium to further work on sustainable entrepreneurship using a tailor-made and continuously optimized action plan based on the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.

Doing so, Rezinal further strengthens its mission to recycle zinc in the most efficient and ecological manner, keeping zinc available for future generations, minimizing the ecological footprint.

Rezinal currently imports raw materials from more than 40 countries worldwide. In the past, container traffic from the port of Antwerp always took place by road.

As part of a continuous improvement of its ecological footprint, Rezinal took the decision in 2019 to transfer all the containers that are now transported by road to inland shipping as much as possible.

Inland container shipping is a particularly safe and sustainable form of transport. Per tonne-kilometer performed (the transport of 1 ton over 1 kilometer), CO2 emissions from inland shipping are two thirds less than those from transport by road (32 g/tonkm vs. 82 g/tonkm).

Rezinal is extremely proud that already one year after the decision was taken to make a modal shift, more than 50% of its container transport is organised via inland shipping. A win-win, for nature and traffic congestion.
